Edwin Jesus and Bryan Phillip are SpekrFreks, an Electro Funk duo hailing from the golden gates of the US West Coast. Their BugEyed Records debut “MindGames” entered the Beatport new release chart at number 1, achieved a top 20 Balance Pool charting and found solid UK support. Their newest release 'Music's Got U' is climbing up the radio dance charts 17 weeks strong on Sirius/XM BPM Radio as well as finding a spot on the popular Promo Only series for Feb 2010. 

SpekrFreks have also done remixes for Deadmau5, Melleefresh, and Owl City to name a few. They will be putting out a full length album on Play Records this summer. Spekrfreks have provided runway music for San Francisco Fashion Week and Sacramento Fashion Week. JONA's sound encompasses all styles and genres, from Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B, Freestyle, Metal, and more to get the people dancing! His philosophy towards the scene is 'EACH ONE TEACH ONE!' He believes that drum & bass is the future of electronic music in which it will infest everyone's minds, hearts, and souls. BAMP Project, Hawaii's premiere concert production company presents MUTEMATH's debut Hawaii performance August 5, 2010 at Pipeline Cafe. The New Orleans' rock innovators are currently touring with 30 Seconds to Mars in support of their sophomore album Armistice, which debuted at No. 18 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart in August 2009 and was called a 'must have album' by the New York Post.

Their self-titled debut album released in 2006 found themselves Grammy nominated and declared by Alternative Press as “the #1 band you need to see live before you die.” The hot album sparked a Hollywood movie frenzy with song appearances in box office smashes including Twilight and Transformers, songs also appeared on hit movies Never Back Down, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and The Stepfather. The first album proved to be such a huge success, the band found themselves pushing their limits and boundaries creating their second album Armistice so far that they almost pushed themselves out of existence.

Chaos and confusion fueled the band on the brink of disaster, but in the end MUTEMATH resolved the tribulations into a work of art! Honolulu - The legendary Motown sensations The Temptations and The Four Tops are coming together in Hawaii for three nights packed full of classic hits! You do not want to miss this very special double-bill! See The Temptations and The Four Tops live in concert at the Blaisdell Arena on Thursday, August 12^th at 7:30PM; the Waikoloa Bowl on Saturday, August 14^th at 7PM; and the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Events Lawn Sunday, August 15^th at 7PM.

 The Temptations: For more than forty years the Temptations have been performing to sold-out crowds and recording successful records; they have withstood the test of time making them one of the most successful groups in music history. In 1960 two Detroit doo-wop groups, The Primes and The Distants, merged into one super-group, The Temptations! In 1964 the Temptations teamed up with singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson to record their first major hit “The Way You Do the Things you Do.”  Soon after hits starting pouring out with songs such as: “Just My Imagination,” “Ain’t too Proud to Beg,” “Masterpiece,” “You’re My Everything,” “All I Need,” “I Can’t Get Next to You,” “Beauty is Only Skin Deep,” and “I Wish it Would Rain.”   The Temptations have produced a multitude of hits but it was one song that established the group as the leaders of the Motown sound “My Girl,” which is still their most successful hit to date! The Temptations became the definitive male vocal group of the 1960’s but they gained long term success due to their ability to adapt to the popular music styles of the day while retaining their signature visual and vocal styles. The Temptations reconstructed their music to fit the Psychedelic sound of the 70’s with hits such as “Papa Was A Rolling Stone,” 'Run Away Child, Running Wild,' 'Cloud Nine,' and 'Psychedelic Shack.' The Temptations have gained tremendous cross-over success throughout the years and today they continue to wow crowds with their alluring sound, pristine look and refined dance moves while still remaining true to Temptations tradition.      The Temptations are:  Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon, Bruce Williamson

The Four Tops: One of the top Soul groups of the Motown era, the Four Tops have won the hearts of thousands with their captivating sound that blends pure vocal power with sweet harmonies and rhythm. The members of the group began their careers together while they were high school students in Detroit. In 1960 they signed to Motown records and the rest is history! They scored their first #1 hit 'I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)' in June 1965. An avalanche of hits soon followed with songs like: 'It's the Same Old Song,' 'Something About You,' “Baby I Need Your Loving,” 'Shake Me, Wake Me (When It's Over)', “Reach Out, I’ll Be There,” “Bernadette,” “Standing in the Shadows of Love,” “Ain’t No Women Like the One I Got,” and “Keeper of the Castle.” The Four Tops records often represented the epitome of the Motown Sound: simple distinctive melodies and rhymes combined with call-and-response lyrics. The Four Tops did not only find success in America they also became the most popular Motown group in England during the British invasion. The Four Tops are considered to be one of the greatest groups to ever come out of Detroit and became one of the top-tier performers on the Motown label. The Four Tops legacy is one of longevity, harmony, and soul.

Sun, Aug. 15 - Keiko Fujii Dance Company In 'Hana - The Flower II' at University of Hawaii, Manoa Kennedy Theatre

Choreographer and modern dance artist Keiko Fujii returns to Kennedy Theatre to present “Hana—The Flower II.” Featured in this one-time only Honolulu matinee is a portion of an original work that Ms. Fujii premiered for members of the royal families of Japan and Denmark in an exclusive concert last February in Tokyo.
 
Based on Japanese folklore, the legend of Amida Pond, and themed around the pressures of modern society, “Hana—The Flower II” fuses traditional Japanese dance elements with modern movement. The production features performers from Ms. Fujii’s Osaka-based dance company and from the University of Hawai‘i at Mänoa Department of Theatre and Dance.  Visual effects are provided by Hawai‘i photographer Dean Sensui and costumes by Hideko Sugai of DECO Japan, Inc.

This year marks the 10th year of The Joy of Sake, and for the second year in a row the event is at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.

As a special perk for Academy members, Joy of Sake will again have premium tables. This year, the premium tables will be cordoned off in an exclusive VIP area. This members-only benefit was a hit last year—they sold out in days. To purchase VIP seats, call 532-8724.

To ensure the high quality of the event, ticket sales are being reduced from 1,200 to 900, while retaining the affordable price of $$80 per person.

On the menu this year will be more than 250 sakes to taste and pair with tasting plates from some of Honolulu's best restaurants. Return to the website often to find out who will be included this year.

Ceramists from the Academy Art Center will sell handmade sake cups at the event. Show your support and purchase a cup. There are a limited number available so be sure not to miss it.

BAMP Project, Hawaii's premiere concert production company presents in very rare form, BlackStar, live in Honolulu for one night only.  Hip-hop legends Mos Def and Talib Kweli emerged onto the Underground scene as Black Star in 1998 with their one and only self-titled album.  Since then both have gone onto create very successful solo careers.

Mos Def has grown into a multi-talented MC, rapper, singer, actor and poet with the launch of four solo albums including Black on Both Sides, The New Danger, True Magic, and The Ecstatic.  He's also appeared in several of Hollywood hits Be Kind Rewind, The Chappelle Show, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and The italian Job performing with the superstar likes of Kanye West, De La Soul, Edward Norton, Jack Black, Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron.

Talib Kweli has also launched four solo albums including Quality, The Beautiful Struggle, Right About Now, and Eardrum, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 charts.  He's appeared on several hit shows like MTV's 'Made' and 'Wild 'N Out', and The Chappelle Show.  Most recently he's formed his own record label called Blacksmith Records. 

Nearly 12 years later Mos Def and Talib Kweli are back together to re-create a night of profound poetry that may never be heard together again.

Since 1991, the Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational has welcomed men and women lacrosse players from all over the US and across the globe as well as kama'aina for a weekend of world-class lacrosse, live entertainment, free clinics and more.

Come watch 'the fastest sport on two feet' - the annual event brings together the entire spectrum of the lacrosse and participants range from first time players to 20-year lacrosse veterans and elite professionals from Major League Lacrosse. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Aloha Youth Lacrosse Association (AYLA), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance boys and girls youth lacrosse in Hawaii. This is a tournament for ages 18+.
