Biography

Jeffrey Ng aka jeffstaple

Jeffrey Ng aka jeffstaple, 33, has masterfully created a world of communicating through design. The founder and owner of Staple Design, Staple Clothing and Reed Space, Jeff is a graphic, web and clothing designer, artist, DJ, writer and entrepreneur.

Born in New Jersey, Jeff attended New York University to study journalism. While in college, he worked as an entry-level data clerk at a design firm. Jeff quickly learned and eventually became a class instructor at the firm in less than 6 months. He then realized his growing passion for graphic design, dropped out of NYU and enrolled himself at Parsons School of Design in Fall 1995 to study Communications Design. 

His first break happened in 1997, when Jeff walked into the Triple Five Soul boutique in SoHo wearing a hand-printed Staple t-shirt. The manager took notice and placed the first ever order of 12 T-shirts from the line. With Staple’s door officially open for business, Jeff successfully turned his one man T-shirt business into a mens collection as well as a full-service design firm; opening Staple Design that year and his own retail store/art gallery, Reed Space, in 2002.

Staying very firmly grounded to the values in which the Staple brand was created–sticking to the basic necessities needed in life, Staple Design has also created work for Burton Snowboards, Converse, The Gap, HBO, Housing Works, Levi’s, LVMH, New Balance, New Museum of Contemporary Art, Nike, NYC&Co., Puma, Timberland, Uniqlo and more.

A tradition in Japan and Hawaii every Friday and Saturday, July 16 - August 28.

WAIKIKI - Come and enjoy the summer season with the Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) at the Pacific Beach Hotel every Friday and Saturday evening across from Waikiki Beach from July 16 through August 28, 2010. The Japanese celebration will feature food, children's games, entertainment and traditional bon dancing and music. Everyone is invited with no admission.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with yatai (food booth) and yomise (games & toys) available to guests, kama'aina and visitors. Every evening will feature the showcasing of local bon dance groups at 6:30 p.m. and guests are invited to join the circle of bon dance. Traditional Japanese dishes will be sold including okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancakes), yakisoba (fried noodles) and cold udon noodles.

For over 50 years, Dr. Michel Odent has been a driving force behind the worldwide movement to normalize childbirth.

He is the author of 11 books in 21 languages on pregnancy, labor, birth, breastfeeding, oxytocin and love. Home birth-like settings and the popularity of water birth are attributed to his influences.

Dr. Odent founded the Primal Health Research Centre (London) testing the assumption that human health is shaped during the primal period: fetal life, the perinatal period and the first year of life. He has appeared in documentaries and films including 'Birth Reborn' and 'The Business of Being Born'.

He is bringing a global symposium to Hawaii in 2012 and will be speaking Saturday morning, July 31st, about this future international event as well as the topic: 'Childbirth: Reasons for Optimism'.

AT THE CHILDREN’S DISCOVERY CENTER

Honolulu, Hawaii – On Saturday, July 31^st from 10:30 – 12:00 the Children’s Discovery Center will host a bon dance especially for keiki and their families. If you’ve never been to a bon dance, this is the perfect setting to learn, and if you are a bon dance expert, come and join the fun! Festivities will be led by members of the Honpa Hongwanji group and will include dances especially for children, such as the Pokemon Ondo.

Learn child-friendly bon dances & participate in this special Japanese tradition

Our Keiki Bon Dance is part of a series of cultural celebrations themed in conjunction with our current traveling exhibit Torn From Home: My Life as a Refugee. The exhibit and these cultural celebrations are designed to give children the opportunity to celebrate the cultural diversity in our Islands and to gain timely information on global migration and immigration. 

The Hawaii Children's Discovery Center is a world-class children's museum filled with hands-on, interactive exhibits where children can learn about themselves and the world beyond our island shores. It opened in its current location in 1998 and has become a special place for Hawaii's families to play, discover and learn together.

Located at 111 Ohe Street in downtown Honolulu, the Center is open on Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 1pm and on Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 3pm. General admission is $$10 per person. Sound for the movie will be transmitted over a FM radio station. Attendees are encouraged to bring a portable FM radio to avoid draining the car battery. Open air seating will be available at the front of the screen, so be sure to pack your beach mats and chairs. Tailgating with barbecues and alcohol will not be allowed during this family inspired event. Centerplate will be providing a variety of snacks and drinks via the snack bar.

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) and the Friends of Halawa Xeriscape Garden (FOHXG) will host the 22nd annual open house and unthirsty plant sale at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden.
The event has been a summer tradition since 1989, promoting and educating the public about xeriscaping-a beautiful and long-term way to conserve water through the landscape.

Local nurseries will offer a variety of beautiful, unthirsty and native plants at moderate prices. Proceeds will support educational programs and classes at the Halawa Xeriscape Garden.

In addition, the open house will include a full day of free, family-friendly activities such as Xeriscape workshops (composting, rain barrels, etc.), keiki games, keiki garden planting, a scavenger hunt in the three-acre demonstration garden and a free mulch giveaway (visitors must bring their own containers).

Choreographer and modern dance artist Keiko Fujii returns to Kennedy Theatre to present “Hana—The Flower II.” Featured in this one-time only Honolulu matinee is a portion of an original work that Ms. Fujii premiered for members of the royal families of Japan and Denmark in an exclusive concert last February in Tokyo.
 
Based on Japanese folklore, the legend of Amida Pond, and themed around the pressures of modern society, “Hana—The Flower II” fuses traditional Japanese dance elements with modern movement. The production features performers from Ms. Fujii’s Osaka-based dance company and from the University of Hawai‘i at Mänoa Department of Theatre and Dance.  Visual effects are provided by Hawai‘i photographer Dean Sensui and costumes by Hideko Sugai of DECO Japan, Inc.

the numerous ethical, health, and environmental advantages of a vegan diet. He will also explain how the U.S. 'Health Care Crisis,' so hotly debated in

Washington recently, is in actuality the result of the government's own USDA agricultural subsidies, which give financial aid only to the unhealthiest products of U.S. agriculture.

When combined with the advertising tax deductions given by the IRS and exploited by the unhealthiest offerings of the U.S. food industry, we have an explanation

for the blackout of real health news by the ad-driven American media.

Hesh Goldstein has been hosting a radio show called 'Health Talk' since 1981 when he used to run Down To Earth. He pays for his air time and has no sponsors, so his

honesty is not compromised.  In 2007 Hesh got his Master’s degree in nutrition to silence the M.D.s that would call in to his radio show asking for his credentials.  At 71 Hesh still plays

two to three hours of basketball a week and teaches women's self defense classes — based

on 20+ years of Wing Chun training. He has been a vegetarian since 1975 and a vegan since

1990. He has no illnesses and takes no medications. Hesh feels if he can do it anyone can.
