Hailing from Santa Barbara, California, Rebelution has developed into a front runner for grassroots, independent and touring driven music groups representing the Cali-Reggae genre. Originally formed in 2004, members Eric Rachmany (vocals / guitar,) Rory Carey (keyboards,) Wesley Finley (drums,) and Marley D. Williams (bass) met in college, while residing in Isla Vista, a popular beachside community in Santa Barbara.  It was there that the seeds to Rebelution’s future would be planted-- and would instill their kick back, “worry free” vibes, catchy refrain, and optimistic, inspiring, and engaging music that would leave their listeners with the sense that they have the power to make this world a better place.

Maui the Demigod, adapted by Gary L. Balfantz with oli & hula created by Kahoa Malalis - A narrative theatre adaptation of Steven Goldsberry's Maui the Demigod: An Epic Novel of Mythical Hawai`i, Balfantz's play was first produced by Kumu Kahua in 1991 and toured the islands in 1992. The play incorporates hula, chant and storytelling in bringing the many myths of Maui to the stage – including his miraculous birth, prank-filled childhood, and heroic deeds of manhood such as slowing down the pace of the sun and pulling an island from the depths of the sea. Characters in the play include Maui's older brothers Loke, Waena and Ki`i, his mother Hina, god of the ocean Kanaloa and the sun La. Many versions exist of the same stories because, as the Kupuna says, 'Maui was a great man. There were many who said he did things that he did not do. Many liars whom we cannot blame for their wonderful lies.' MORE:    Before Don Ho there was Alfred Apaka, The Golden Voice of Hawai‘i. During the 1940s and 1950s, Apaka was Hawaii’s most famous entertainer and his show was a “must see” for all visitors. Apaka was indeed the most influential local performer of his time, setting the standard for all modern Hawaiian music. His voice, masculine good looks and personality truly helped put Henry Kaiser’s Hawaiian Village Hotel on the map. George Kanahele, a critical observer of Hawaiian music later wrote, “Alfred Apaka possessed one of the most remarkable voices to ever come out of Hawai‘i.”

Apaka was best known for his lavish shows in the Hawaiian Village’s Tapa Room and later in the property’s enormous gold aluminum geodesic dome constructed by Kaiser to accommodate Apaka’s large crowds.  As his fame grew, he became a well-known recording artist, spreading the appreciation of Hawaiian music to the world. Apaka was planning his own national television special at the time of his unexpected heart attack and death at the age of 40 in 1960. He was buried with a microphone placed in his hands before his casket was closed. In 1997, Alfred Apaka was honored by a prestigious Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award and in 1999 with an album, Lost Recordings of Hawai‘i’s Golden Voice.

From the Horse’s Mouth – Hawai’i is a live dance/theater concert in which thirty leading dance professionals from Hawai‘i collaborate, each telling a story from their life, performing their own dance sequence, and interacting with the other participating artists.  New York-based choreographers Tina Croll and Jamie Cunningham will work with the Hawai‘i dance experts to create this once-in-a-lifetime show.

From the Horse’s Mouth is a celebration that has received standing ovations for its captivating story-telling and exceptional dancing, with rave reviews from critics in the United States and Canada. In each production, 30 selected performers – outstanding dancers and choreographers of all ages and all dance traditions – tell personal stories from their lives, and perform movement of their own choosing - first alone, and then in interaction with other dancers. to announce that on Saturday, March 20th, 2010, they will produce one of the most highly- 

anticipated ﬁght events in the history of Islands at it presents “Champions II,” live from the 

premiere venue in the heart of Honolulu, the Neal Blaisdell Arena. For ticket pricing and

UFC and StrikeForce veterans will vie for coveted X-1 gold, as X-1 World Middleweight (185 

lb.) Champion and Hawaiian Falaniko “Niko” Vitale will defend his belt against the 

controversial Kalib Starnes. Also featured will be several title ﬁghts for vacant X-1 belts, as 

Ultimate Fighter combatant and former X-1 World Lightweight Champion Richie Witson and 

StrikeForce veteran Harris Sarmiento will battle for the vacant lightweight (155 lb.) belt. 

Dave Moreno and Kurrent Cockett will lock horns with the X-1 World Featherweight (145 

lb.) Championship at stake, and Bryson Hansen clashes with Riley Dutro for the X-1 World 

Bantamweight (135 lb.) Championship. 

The co-main event was to feature X-1 World Welterweight (170 lb.) Champion and Hawaii 

native Brandon Wolff defending his strap against an opponent TBD, but he broke some ribs, 

and will now ﬁght on the next X-1 event. 

The undercard will feature some talented rising stars the Islands. The X-1 Featherweight (145 

lbs.) State title will be on the line as Matt Comeau and Sadhu Bott go to war. The X-1 

Bantamweight (135 lbs.) State belt will also be contested, with Russell Doane and Timothy 

Weeks vying for the prestige of that championship. In addition, exciting young ﬁghters 

Michael Brightmon, Bryson Kamaka, Dejuan Hathaway, and others will showcase to the 

Islands what the Hawaii ﬁghting spirit is all about. 

“We are excited to bring ﬁve world title bouts to Hawaiian ﬁght fans,” said Mike Miller,

In this presentation he will share his viewpoint as a culinary practitioner and consumer. Please join Chef Onishi as he presents a lecture and cooking demonstration entitled “Buyer Beware.”

Chef Onishi has been demonstrating and instructing people in food preparation and presentation for over 25 years. He has worked as one of the first sushi chefs to be trained in America, owned and managed catering businesses in California and Hawaii, and has taught cooking classes around the country.
