USAAs most of you may (or may not) know, I do volunteer work at Tripler Fisher House and we're holding our first annual 8K this summer in an effort to raise awareness about the non-profit organization and how we can assist our military families during a medical crisis or loss. In memory of our fallen service members, we're collecting 6,719 pairs of boots (to represent each Service Member who has either been killed in action or died while on duty since 9/11) to line the path of the 2012 Fisher House Run. Pictures and a flag will be added to honor them. If you have boots you would like to donate in support of this effort, they will need to be collected no later than Aug. 4th, and can either be dropped off or sent directly to: Tripler Fisher House 317 Krukowski Rd. Honolulu, HI 96819 Additionally, if you have pictures of the fallen you would like to include to be honored, they can also be sent to the above address. -On-site pre-registration is 5-6am and route starts at 7am (not a timed event). -Patriot/Motorcycle Riders will lead off the event (let me know if you'd like to be a part of this if you're a rider *note all riders must wear PPE per base regulations) - There will also be a Keiki Fun Run -The military unit who runs with their colors and has the most participation will be awarded the "Traveling Bronzed Boots"... these boots will change hands each year to the unit with the most participation. This event is open to both military and civilians in the community.
