DESCRIPTION:Camera Obscura presents the 3rd Annual Dark Mask BallJoin the MASK AND COSTUME CONTESTFeaturing dance performance by Giinko MarischinoAlso DJ sets by: DJ NocturnaDJ Modboy DJ Night FoxFor more information: www.djnocturna.comwww.djnocturnaandlana.comInspired by the annual festival\, held in Venice-Carnevale di Venezia and Stanley Kubricks\' last film classic\, Eyes Wide Shut\, the 3rd Annual Dark Mask Ball is also an event that occurs every other year rotating with Camera Obscura\'s Venetian Mask Ball.The many century old tradition of wearing a mask and costume\, no matter how elaborate it may be is a device use to hide the wearer\'s identity and social status\, masks cloaked in sullen guise\, minding the muse of pleasure and permitting the wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she may want to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. Members of Giinko Marischino\, a dance troupe will be performing at the event. Known for their elaborate and intricate costumes and unique choreography\, Giinko Marischino\, mixed with butoh and modern dance\, began in the mid 90s by Coco Chandelier and co-founded by Summer Partlon and Malia Oliver. The intent was to take their dance training off the formal stage and out into the world where the intersection of dance and art was alive with invention. As a result\, Giinko has performed in wildly eclectic arenas including live music venues for bands such as Sonic Youth and Porno for Pyros\, at art venues including The Honolulu Academy of Art and the Contemporary Museum\, and at beauty pageants\, festivals\, corporate conventions and on the streets.Quoted by founder Cocoa Chandelier\, "Giinko Marischino is "a nut and bunch of cherries." A "nut" refers to the inimitable Cocoa and "a bunch of cherries" refers to the modern dance girls and boys in the collective community. Today\, Giinko Marischino is a collaborative collective of dance and performance artists who gather for the sake of creating edgy and inspired art under the influence of butoh\, drag and the spirit of creative community.Please come dress to impress in mask and costume/cape or black tie and evening dress and see you there.
