66 mins. Three films have subtitles: French, German and Swiss German. All other films are in English or are nonverbal. Appropriate for all ages.

This program of live-action and animated shorts from the Children's Film Festival Seattle 2012 is a passport to a world of imagination. You'll meet magical characters, laugh at funny stories and learn how friendship makes the planet go 'round.

Little Red Plane Charlotte Blacker, England, 3 mins. A boy and his cat hop in a knitted red plane to deliver packages all over the world and beyond.

Snowflakes and Carrots Samantha Leriche-Gionet, Canada, 4 mins. A little girl is stealing the noses from snowmen-and she has a good reason!

Love Bug Kat Candler, USA, 6 mins. A nine-year-old, bug-loving boy must work up his courage to ask a like-minded little girl out on a date. Winner of the Children's Jury Prize for Best Live Action Short.

Trevor Matthieu Saghezchi, France, 3 mins. In French with English subtitles. A little boy's mind speeds up, just when it's time for it to slow down.

Olga Kai Pannen, Germany, 6 mins. In German with English subtitles. A sweet animated film about feelings, and the way that friends can help each other.

Mungge: Not Again! Irmgard Walthert, Switzerland 6 mins. In Swiss German with English subtitles. Two marmots and a hedgehog must try to rescue their sleepwalking friend.

The Driving Accident Rio Fitch, Canada, 5 mins. A minor mess becomes a big one when a little boy attempts to clean up a mishap. Winner of the Children's Jury Northwest Prize.

Dodu: The Cardboard Boy Jose Miguel Ribeiro, Portugal, 5 mins. A boy and his ladybug friend leave the city and set sail on a magical adventure.

Adventures of Owen (David Cadiz, Canada, 13 min.) A boy harnesses the power of his imagination to soar above his everyday problems.

Cello Tatiana Kurnaeva, Russia, 6 mins. A boy practicing the cello is transported to a magical place.

Big Drive Anita Lebeau, Canada, 9 mins. Four sisters use their imaginations to make an endless road trip fun. Winner of the Children's Jury Prize for Best Animated Film.

General information: The Doris Duke Theatre opens its doors on Kinau Street one half-hour before each showing. Tickets for films may be purchased at the theater door on the day of screening, beginning one half-hour before each showing. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at www.honolulumuseum.tix.com

Admission: $10 adults; $8 museum members.

Parking: For weekday matinees, theater patrons may park in the lot behind the Honolulu Museum of Art School (entrance on makai side of Beretania) for $3 with theater validation. For evening screenings, you can park free at the museum's lot at 1035 Kinau St., Diamond Head of Victoria Street. Handicapped parking is available in the small Luce Pavilion lot on Victoria Street. Patrons using handicapped stalls should proceed to the main entrance on Kinau Street.

 

The Doris Duke Theatre is equipped with the Easy Listener Hearing Assistance System. You can pick up a receiver at the ticket counter.
