Onoe Kikunobu Dance Company: Communicating Culture And Traditions Through Nihon BuyoIn commemoration of its 36th anniversary and Kikunobu Sensei's legacy of 51 years of Japanese classical dance in Hawai'i, the Onoe Kikunobu Dance Company has assembled a production comparable in artistry and authenticity to what you would find in Japan. Visiting performers include mainland artist David Furumoto, professor of Asian Theater at the University of Wisconsin; and Japanese artists Onoe Kikunojo II, Headmaster of Onoe School of Dance (Tokyo) and his assistant dance master/choreographer, Onoe Kikushiro; as well as costumes from Kyoto and wigs from Tokyo. Music will be provided by guest musicians Darin Miyashiro, Yuma Totani, Ayako Masuda, and Yumiko Kubo.
