Insomniac Artists Club (Ong King Arts Center)

The Insomniac Artists Club is a weekly salon and associated creative collaborative. Everyone is welcome to attend. There is a suggested $5 cover to help keep the event alive.

A 'salon' is a gathering of intellectuals (whatever that means!) to discuss ideas and celebrate the practice of conversation.

There is a long, rich history behind salons, dating back to the Greek symposiums of Plato's time if not further.

Every week the group starts with a warm-up activity, designed to create and share on a collaborative level. These warm-ups include:

'Page parties' where each attendee makes a page for a zine that will later be distributed to the public

Poetry slams

Show & Tell.

The goals of the INSOMNIAC ARTISTS CLUB include: providing intellectual stimulation, developing relationships among artists in the community, and creating collaboratively, celebrating the art of conversation, and keeping our fingers on the pulse of our city.

oNG KIng ARTs CeNtER’s mission is to make a sustainable art community. It is a space for creative risk taking, and artistic mastery.

A sustainable art community, exits in mutual support and inspiration of all involved. It depends upon the innovation of the art, the artist, and its positive effect on the community. The ability of the artist to take a chance on learning, or discovering something new, creates a constant cycle of teaching and learning. Every moment at Ong King is a stop in the cycle. Performances reveal work, classes provide guidance, and the space is electrified with growth. Here one can both become humble and try something new, and/or attain new levels of artistic mastery through practice and criticism.
